MARK STIMSON has quit as manager of Stevenage - fuelling speculation he is about to take over the vacant Gillingham job.
Stimson has been linked with the Gillingham job for a number of weeks, which led to Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace offering him a new contract, in a bid to fend off outside contract.
A written resignation was received by Stevenage from Stimson on Wednesday morning.
Mr Wallace said: "We don't know where he's going, but he obviously feels that this action is in the best interests of his future career, and only history will show whether he was right or wrong.
"I think it's been clear to everyone over the past few weeks that events outside the club have been the major contributor in his decision to resign."
