Andrew Crofts is due for talks with Gillingham manager Mark Stimson ahead of the weekend to discuss the former captain’s immediate future.
Crofts, 24, returns to the Gills, after spending the week on international duty with Wales, having failed to reach an agreement over settling his contract early last week.
Stimson has already said that Crofts’ chances of winning a first team place are slim and he’s going to meet soon.
The Gills boss said: “I don’t know when he’s back, whether he arrives back in the country today (Thursday) or he’s back training on Thursday.
“When he comes back we’ll sit down and decide what is best for him and where he’s going to go and what he’s going to do.
“He has someone looking after him and they’re probably giving him the advice that they think is best and we can’t unfortunately change that.”
No offer has been made for Crofts from any other club since his return from a loan spell at Peterborough.
The midfielder hasn’t played for the Gills since making a late substitute appearance in the 1-0 FA Cup win at Bury three months ago.
