GILLINGHAM manager Mark Stimson says he won’t be held to ransom in his attempts to bring new players to the club.
Stimson had hoped to bring in a striker and a defender in time for the home match against Northampton on Saturday but he admitted clubs are holding out for more than he can offer.
He said: "We’re waiting for phone calls. It’s frustrating because we thought we’d have them done by the early part of this week.
"As we speak now, nothing has been done and we’re just waiting.
"I’ve always said we’ll only pay what we think is the right money for those players.
"Some teams are holding out for higher than what we value them because there is still quite a bit of this (transfer) window to go."
