Lewes 2 Welling United 0
PAUL BOOTH scored against his former club again as Welling were well beaten by Blue Square South pace-setters Lewes on Friday night.
Booth slotted home his fifth penalty of the season after just three minutes to give Lewes a lead they never looked like losing.
The spot-kick was surrounded in controversy, however, as Herne Bay referee Mick McCoy pointed to the spot following Leon Solomon's innocuous-looking challenge on former Bromley winger Kirk Watts.
The Wings created only one worthwhile opportunity in the opening period but Omari Coleman failed to take advantage after using his pace to good effect.
Chances were at a premium at both ends as Welling defended well but their limitations in attack were clear to see.
Coleman was fortunate to escape with just a yellow card after joining in a 15-man melee following Richard Carpenter's tackle on Simon Wormull.
The home side enjoyed similar luck 20 minutes from time when substitute Lewis Hamilton, already booked for dissent, escaped without punishment for a late lunge on Orlando Smith.
The game was wrapped up two minutes later when Welling failed to clear a left-wing corner and substitute Andy Drury was left with the simplest of tasks to tuck the ball home.
