Striker haunts old club to earn Wings the points

Welling 3 Eastleigh 2

Two goals from James Baker against his former club helped Welling to three points in Blue Square South on Saturday.

The striker took his tally to three goals in five appearances since making the switch from the Hampshire outfit.

Baker put Welling ahead in the 12th minute when he turned in Loui Fazackerley's right-wing cross.

Chances fell at both ends before Baker made it 2-0 nine minutes before the break nodding in from close range after brilliant work by Fazackerley opened up the visitors' defence.

Although Charlie Sheringham went close at the start of the second half, it was Eastleigh who dominated and the addition of former Welling winger Matt Bodkin had a positive impact.

They pulled a goal back on 64 minutes when Andy Forbes scored from close range - and moments later Sanchez Ming had to perform a miraculous last-ditch tackle to deny Bodkin a breakaway equaliser.

The Wings made the points safe three minutes from time when substitute Jerome Anderson burst clean through to score, and although Forbes pulled another back late in stoppage time, his consolation was greeted bizarrely by manager Ian Baird throwing a water bottle onto the pitch.
