Oldham 2 Gillingham 1

GILLINGHAM rediscovered their goalscoring touch but Oldham fought back to condemn Mark Stimson's men to their fourth defeat in six games at Boundary Park on Saturday.

Stimson said: "In the first half-hour we looked like we were on the front-foot and I thought that it could have been our day.

"But in the second half we didn't test their keeper enough. We stood back and let Oldham come at us and [the winning goal] was a fantastic strike by an international player."

The Gills took the lead on 25 minutes when a move involving the impressive Adam Miller ended with Dennis Oli meeting Nicky Southall's deep cross and his header crossed the line before Simeon Jackson followed in to make sure.

Andrew Crofts had a golden chance to double the lead moments later but he was thwarted by keeper Mark Crossley when clean through.

The home side's equaliser came three minutes before the break when Lewis Alessandra played in Chris Taylor and he beat the advancing Simon Royce.

Oldham won the match in the 67th minute when Gary McDonald found top scorer Craig Davies and his neat finish from the edge of the area gave Royce no chance.

It could have been worse for the Gills, who went with three up front in the last 15 minutes, but Royce did well to deny Davies in stoppage-time after the striker had raced clear and then McDonald struck the bar from distance.
