Doncaster 2 - 0 Gillingham

A LATE brace from substitute Paul Heffernan knocked Gillingham out of the Carling Cup at Doncaster on Tuesday night.

The game looked to be heading for extra-time until Heffernan, who replaced Neil Roberts in the 73rd minute, rose to head in Simon Marples' right wing cross.

And with the Gills dejected, Heffernan was on hand again to make the game safe a minute from time.

Gillingham's best chance came in the first half when Steve Hislop somehow shot wide after Andrew Croft's initial effort had been parried by Doncaster goalkeeper Jan Budtz.
