Kent sprint ace Adam Gemili produced a superb run to smash his Personal Best and earn a place in Saturday's World Championship 200m final in Moscow.
The 19-year-old Dartford ace set a new PB as he cruised through the heats in Russia on Friday morning – improving his previous best time, set just two months ago, by 0.13 seconds to stop the clock in 20.17.
It made the former Dartford Grammar School pupil – who reached the semi-finals of the 100m at the London 2012 Olympics and won the World Junior Championship title last July – the fifth fastest Brit of all time over 200m.
However less than nine hours later on Friday evening the Blackheath & Bromley star was back on track in the semi-final and produced a stunning run to break the magical 20-second barrier, dipping to beat Jamaican Nickel Ashmeade on the line and finish in a time of 19.98.
It put the former football star second on the British all-time list behind John Regis – whose record has stood for 19 years – and made him the fastest European teenager in history over 200m.
Gemili was the second fastest qualifier for Saturday evening’s final (5.10pm BST) and more than half a second faster than Olympic champion Usain Bolt.
