KENT'S world boxing champion Takaloo has revealed his anger and anguish over the shock defeat he suffered against Eugeno Monteiro at the Wembley Conference Centre on Saturday night.
The ‘Margate Rock’ took on Monteiro in an eight-round non-title fight, despite being ill and on antibiotics. And it all back-fired.
The WBU light-middleweight champion was knocked down within 20 seconds of the opening bell and went on to lose the fight on points 77-75.
He said: “I wasn’t at my best and was just stupid to take the fight when ill and on antibiotics. Everyone has got an excuse for when they lose.
"They say they were ill or hurt their hand or their shoe was too big. But I am the first person to admit when I am beaten and it wasn’t really me in that fight. There’s no way he should have beaten me.
“Some people had him just about winning on points but, if anything, it should have been a draw because he was slapping. He had a bit of work-rate, but nothing was hitting.”
Takaloo added: “My boxing was lacklustre and I couldn’t throw jabs. The guy was holding me and I couldn’t do anything because I was ill.
Takaloo is due to meet promoter Frank Warren on Friday and, after a short holiday, is expecting a quick return to the ring.
“I am going to have a holiday, forget about boxing, and have a bit of fun in my life because it has all been work,” he said.
“It’s only a small setback because I didn’t lose my belt against that kid and I’ll knock him out, no doubt about it, if I fight him again.
“My fans who follow me shouldn’t worry because I’ll be back, better and stronger, and they haven’t seen the best of me yet.”
