GILLINGHAM chairman Paul Scally says winger Matthew Jarvis will not be renewing his contract at Priestfield at the end of this season.

The Gills received an offer of £650,000 from Nottingham Forest for Jarvis earlier this month - but the club said the player's agent Mark Curtis had rejected any deal.

Mr Scally said: "He won't be renewing his contract here next season."

If Jarvis does join another club, any fee received by Gillingham will be set by a tribunal because Jarvis is under 24.

Mr Scally added: "I'm disappointed but this is the world we live in. But we're not a one man team and there are a lot of other good players who have come into the team."

The 20-year-old midfielder was offered a new contract by Gillingham at the end of last year.

"He would have been the highest-paid young player in the history of the football club but his agent turned his nose up," Mr Scally said.

Jarvis has made more than 100 appearances since being given his debut by former manager Andy Hessenthaler in 2003.
