Gills boss Peter Taylor accepts the club’s defensive record is not good enough.
Taylor’s team have conceded last-minute goals in their last two games and only two teams in League 1 have conceded more goals this season.
In the 15 games that Taylor has been in charge, the Gills have only kept one clean sheet, conceding 25 goals in the same period.
It’s a record that the manager is desperate to put right.
He said: “That’s not good enough and we have got to get better.
“I am sure the players will say they are tested more this year than last year, because of the forwards in the division but we have to get better than that and get a few more clean sheets.”
Gillingham let in two goals against Walsall on Sunday and Taylor felt both were avoidable.
He said: “We have to stop making silly mistakes which is causing us a lot of problems.
“If you don’t make the right decisions you are going to get punished, no matter what level you are at. At times we made wrong decisions and that’s why we’ve been conceding late.
“We have to learn from that because we can’t keep doing that.”
