Peter Taylor admitted he was disappointed to see Leon Legge get himself sent off on Saturday.
The Gills centre-back had already picked up a booking, for a foul midway through the first half. And another challenge late in the game left referee Charles Breakspear with little choice but to dish out a second booking.
Taylor said: “I thought Leon made a bad decision and I have spoken to him about it.
“The first one was extremely harsh so I would like to see that one again but two bookings can’t be appealed against anyway.
“I was disappointed with that (first booking) because I thought the referee had done well but he was a little eager to get his yellow card out and I thought he ended up having to even it out with other yellow cards.”
Legge will now be suspended for Gillingham’s FA Cup first round tie against non-league Brackley Town on Saturday, as will midfielder Charlie Lee, who picked up his fifth booking of the season in the same game.
Taylor said: “Two players will be missing but it gives someone else an opportunity.”
