Interim boss Peter Taylor hopes the addition of loan players will aid Gillingham’s survival chances.

A 2-1 defeat at Port Vale on Saturday again showed that the side are lacking in certain areas and Taylor will be making his thoughts clear to Gills chairman Paul Scally.

“There will be certain areas where I will be explaining to the chairman where I think we can be a touch stronger,” said Taylor.

“I have looked at the team now for three games, I have identified strong and weak areas and I think any manager, anywhere, interim or permanent will then to go to their boss and say, ‘this is where I think we can improve the team’.”

Taylor’s three games in charge, over the course of eight days, have seen the Gills win one and lose two. He now has a full week with the players ahead of the visit of Carlisle on Saturday.

“We have a free week and I am sure some of the boys will be tired on Monday,” he said. “We have a game on Tuesday, at Charlton, and that gives a chance for other people to get some fitness.”
