Sarah Seager will be bidding to become the second ABA champion to come out of Medway in a month when she boxes in the female ABA finals in Aldershot this weekend.
The 17-year-old from Snodland takes on Newcastle’s Carly Whellens in the under-17 57kg division at the Queen’s Army Gym on Saturday.
And although Seager will go into the bout as the underdog after Whellens won the title last year, Strood ABC trainer Chris Ripley believes his charge can follow in the footsteps of St Mary’s John Saunders, who won a boys’ ABA title earlier this month.
Ripley said: "Sarah has looked fantastic in the gym all week – better than ever. She's in a great frame of mind and I've never seen a girl as good as her.
"She's got talent but she’s a hard worker as well. She puts most of the boys here to shame with how hard she trains."
Ripley also believes that a victory this weekend would put her on the right track for the 2012 Olympics.
"If we win she definitely needs looking at for the Olympics," Ripley added. "She's got everything going for her."
