Tennis club into final

Margate Tennis Club’s men’s first team will meet Sydenham in the Kent Summer League finals after clinching Division 1 at the weekend by edging out Park Langley 1.

Captain Brian Mileham and partner Bob Whitehead produced some of their best tennis of the season to defeat Langley’s top pairing 6-1, 6-2, but the match was levelled when Lee Mileham and Gavid Vickers lost 7-5, 1-6, 2-6.

Mileham and Whitehead restored the Margate lead with a 7-5, 6-4 success over the Langley second string, but again the match was tied when the Park Langley first pair won the remaining contest 6-1, 6-1.

With the teams deadlocked at 2-2, the countback rule came into play with Margate winning on sets, five to four.
