GILLINGHAM manager Stan Ternent has urged his side to start winning their home games if they want to escape relegation.

After Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Millwall, the Gills have just 14 league games left to haul themselves out of the bottom three.

And Ternent - who has watched his team fail to score in the past three games - believes they must win at least half of those games to keep their place in the Championship.

He said: "A point against Millwall is better than nothing but in our situation, we need to be picking up all three points at home. We have 14 games left and probably need to win seven of them. It’s a difficult situation."

Ternent praised his team for their commitment against the Lions but admitted it was always going to be a tricky game.

He said: "The pitch wasn’t good and the weather wasn’t good. It was a derby game, too, so there wasn’t much room.

"Often derby games do not make a great spectacle as far as the finer arts of football but I was pleased with the effort and endeavour of my players.

"Since I’ve come here they’ve given their all except for one half at Leicester and one half at Watford. It was a game of few chances but I thought we had the best clear cut chances and could have shaded it.

"Mike Flynn could have won it late on but Marshall came out and made a great save. I think Flynn did well in his home debut."
