IT'S hard to know where to start in a week that has had almost everything – new faces, four points, a massive brawl, an FA charge and a rescinded red card.
Our situation at the foot of the Championship certainly looks a lot better now.
It was only after the battling win over Stoke that I noticed just how tight it’s become at the bottom.
Unbelievably, we’re now just three points away from being in 16th place, and a win against high-flying Ipswich on Saturday will see us leapfrog Brighton, who were being heralded as safe a month ago.
Our excellent league record in Yorkshire continued on Saturday with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Leeds, but it might have been more if Darius Henderson hadn’t been sent off after the ugly melee which has resulted in this FA charge.
As his red card was rescinded, you have to wonder what would have happened if the referee who, to be fair, didn’t have a clue what had gone on, had not dismissed Darius.
Sadly the red cards seemed to kick start our hosts and it was just a matter of when they scored, rather than if, and it was unfortunate that the goal was made by our former striker Marlon King and that it was, much like every goal we’ve conceded in the last couple of months, incredibly scrappy.
With the arrivals of Jay McEveley and Jonathan Douglas on loan from Blackburn, we seem to be sorting some of our problems out, most notably in the midfield, but I would still like to see us sign a centre-back in order to cut out these sloppy goals, while another forward still wouldn’t go amiss as the battle to avoid the drop enters its final stages.
On a different subject, the chairman wants to change the club crest. Why? The badge is perfectly apt for the club, and it will surely cost him a lot of money to change all the merchandise the club sells.
Personally, I’ve entered the competition by emailing the club a picture of the existing badge, and if enough of us do that, hopefully we can make Mr Scally see sense and not make the change.
Fan power can work. Whatever happened to that white home kit?
