KENT boxer Johnny Armour has split from trainer Mark Roe as he looks to get his career back on track.
Armour met with Jimmy McDonnell, who trains Thanet-based fighter Takaloo and heavyweight Danny Williams, at his gym in Woodford Bridge and decided to make the switch.
Armour is set for a September showdown with Dale Robinson for the vacant British bantamweight crown. The title became vacant when champion Nicky Booth was jailed for two years for theft and burglary.
Armour, 35, has been with Roe for just under two years but said he wanted more one-to-one training as he reaches the end of his career.
The Chatham boxer stressed: “I felt I needed fresh surroundings and heard good things about Jimmy so I went to meet him and was impressed by what he had to say.
“He's got some great fighters in his stable and the things he puts you through to get you in shape sound great and that’s what I need at this stage of my career."
He added: “I know I can beat Robinson and looking at that fight as a stepping stone to get me back on the road up again.”
The date and venue for the fight are expected to be finalised in the near future.
