Kent skipper James Tredwell says he 'could not have done any more' as he bids to cement his place in the England one-day side for the upcoming series with Australia.

Tredwell admitted he was ‘obviously disappointed’ to miss out on a place in the England team for the two t20 clashes against the Australians last week but was hoping to keep his place in the ODI side for the start of the five-match NatWest series against the tourists at Headingley on Friday (10.15am).

The spinner impressed in England’s warm-up win against Ireland in Dublin on Tuesday, claiming 2-35 from 10 tight overs and seeing a potential third scalp spurned by former Kent batsman Michael Carberry with a horrendous drop on his England debut.

Tredwell said: “The ball came out nicely from a personal point of view. There was a little bit of banter flying about after the drop, but it happens, it didn’t take much longer to get the guy out and the result was the important thing in the end.”

He added: “It’s a massive series, games with Australia always are, and obviously I’d love to be involved, but I don’t know what will happen.

“I don’t think I could have done much more over the past year.

“We have a big training session on Thursday and I expect we will find out after that. All I can do is wait and see and if I get the opportunity then try to take it.”

Further games follow at Old Trafford on Sunday, Edgbaston on September 11, Cardiff on September 14 and at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton on September 16.

Tredwell missed Kent’s game against Glamorgan, which started on Tuesday, and will be absent from next Wednesday’s championship clash with Essex.
