Welling United 1 Eastbourne Borough 0
WELLING keeper Jamie Turner returned to the side with a man of the match performance to guide his team to maximum points against Eastbourne at Park View Road on Saturday.
Turner, who has not played since December 30 due to a back injury, pulled off a series of magnificent saves, including a second half Duncan McArthur penalty.
A stale first half came to life in stoppage time when Welling debutant Dane Springer scored what proved to be the only goal of the game.
Ellis Green's right-wings cross was met at the far post by Springer, who joined the Wings on loan from Premiership neighbours Charlton Athletic on Friday.
The closest either side had come to a goal previously was a sliced Ben Lewis clearance that came back off the upright.
It was one-way traffic after the break as Eastbourne pegged Welling back. Turner denied substitute Adam Wilde from close range before Borough wasted a golden opportunity to equalise on 62 minutes.
Che Stadhart was adjudged to have fouled Matt Smart but McArthur's weak penalty was comfortably saved by Turner.
Eastbourne introduced a lively substitute Pat Harding but failed to force Turner into action in the final 20 minutes despite dominating posession.
