TV firms in Priestfield dispute

MERIDIAN TELEVISION will know later today whether their cameras will be allowed into Priestfield Stadium tonight for Gillingham's match with Derby.

A contractural problem involving Sky Television, who now own the Nationwide League rights, and the independent television companies, resulted in Meridian being unable to screen Guy Ipoua's match-winning goal against Wimbledon in last night's highlights programme.

Agreement over highlights programmes is expected to be reached today, though Gillingham may follow Burnley's example after they banned ITV cameras from Turf Moor for Saturday's match with Brighton.

Burnley took the unilateral action following the loss of £5 million caused by the collapse of ITV Digital. The club announced last month that all their players were available for transfer owing to the loss of television revenue.

For Saturday's home game against Brighton, the club refused press accreditation to an ITV reporter though the company were able to get hold of a video showing all the goals from the game.
