CHARLTON manager Alan Curbishley has told Jason Euell to stay and fight for his place after dismissing a national newspaper report that the pair had been involved in a training ground bust-up.

Curbishley was quick to set the record straight after it was reported the club’s £4.75m record signing would be made available when the transfer window opens next month.

Euell, who has been the club’s top scorer for the past couple of seasons, has become frustrated being among the substitutes, especially now Charlton have changed formation in deploying three midfield players, which he prefers.

Curbishley insisted: "Jason Euell signed an extended contract in the summer. I think it’s easy for players who are not playing to think about moving. So far as I’m concerned, he is part of a squad which I chose to go into the season with.

"Jason and I have not had a bust-up. I read the other day that Dennis Rommedahl and I had a row. Nothing could be further from the truth. I cannot do anything if papers choose to write things which are not true.

"Of course Jason isn’t happy because he wants to be playing in the team, especially now we’re playing three midfield players, which is something he would relish being a part of.

"But he will have to wait for his chance. I know he’s been our top goalscorer over the last couple of seasons but it’s up to him to get back into the side and not take the easy route.

"As it stands, he’s a Charlton player and that’s how I want it."
