FRESH speculation surrounds the Charlton futures of forwards Francis Jeffers and Dennis Rommedahl with the pair set to leave in the summer.

Manager Alan Curbishley has admitted they are unhappy at not being regulars in the side and now the two could be offloaded as he seeks to swell his transfer kitty.

Among his transfer targets is Sheffield United’s 22-year-old England Under-21 international central defender Phil Jagielka whom Curbishley personally checked in his club’s recent matches against Crewe and Stoke.

Keith Peacock, Charlton’s assistant manager, has also recently assessed the form of 25-year-old Wales international centre-back Danny Gabbidon.

Norwich City’s former Wimbledon midfielder Damien Francis is another who interests the Addicks as they prepare for the summer opening of the transfer window.

First to exit The Valley is almost certain to be 24-year-old Jeffers who has scored four goals in eight league and cup starts since his £2.6 million arrival from Arsenal in the summer.

His style of play conflicts with the club’s 4-5-1 formation and he has found himself surplus to requirements.

He missed the last home game against West Bromwich Albion through illness and recently underwent surgery for in-growing toe nails.

Denmark international Rommedahl, 26, has been inconsistent since his £2 million move from PSV Eindhoven in July and rumours persist that club are ready to cut their losses by selling him, possibly to a club in Denmark.

Meanwhile, the club have been forced to concede defeat in attempts to overturn the Premier League's decision to put back the final match of the season against Crystal Palace from Saturday, May 14 to Sunday, May 15.

Charlton chief executive Peter Varney, who was outspoken in his criticism of the decision, said: "Needless to say we are extremely disappointed."
