CHARLTON assistant manager Phil Parkinson has turned down the chance to become the new Huddersfield boss.

Parkinson, who joined the club in January, was offered a deal that would have allowed him to stay at The Valley until the end of the season, but still decided not to leave.

He said: "I was very flattered to be offered the team manager's position at Huddersfield, but will not be joining them.

"I wish them every success in the future as the chairman and the chief executive are good people with real ambition for their football club.

"I am thoroughly enjoying my role as assistant to Alan Pardew at Charlton, however, and there is a real buzz about the club at present.

"At the end of the day I simply could not walk away from a club that I have a real affection for, and one that I believe has a bright future under Alan."

He added: "Ultimately, any player, manager or coach wants to work at the highest possible level, and the opportunity to hopefully work in the Premiership with Charlton next year is one I couldn't walk away from."
