Kent batsman Martin van Jaarsveld has been named the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) Player of the Year.

The South African was also named MVP of the Friends Provident Trophy and a member of the PCA’s team of the year, along with fellow Kent batsman Joe Denly.

While van Jaarsveld, 34, could not prevent Kent being relegated to Division Two of the LV County Championship he accounted for more than 1,000 Championship runs, while his form helped the county side reach both one-day finals this year.

Van Jaarsveld struck four centuries in the Championship, but it was in the fast-paced Friends Provident Trophy where he really dominated, hitting four more centuries and scoring a total of 660 runs from nine innings as Kent progressed to the final, where they lost to Essex.

The South African international also helped Kent take their defence of the Twenty20 title back to final, although they were narrowly defeated on that occasion by Middlesex.

A former Suffolk and Northants player, van Jaarsveld joined Kent in 2005 and has topped the 1,000-run mark in three of his four seasons with the club.
