SNODLAND'S Jenny Poulter has won the world seniors women’s snooker title in Swindon. Forty-one-year-old Poulter defeated Ann McMahon, of Ireland, 3-0 in the best of five frames final after sailing through the opening four rounds.
Poulter said that she has not has a lot of time for practice since becoming the part-owner of the Savoy Snooker Club in Snodland with her mother Jean.“I did not play that well,” she explained, “but was delighted to win and lift the trophy and £200 prize.”
Poulter also took part in the ladies world championship and reached the last 16 out of 64 entries. Ranked 14 in the world, Poulter was beaten by the eventual runner-up, Lisa Quick, of Weston Super Mare, Somerset.
Poulter was introduced to the sport 20 years ago by her late brother John and learned the tricks of the trade after watching her dad and brother play on a three-quarter size table at the British Legion Club in Aylesford.
Her next big tournament is the Regal Masters at the John Spencer Snooker Club in Stirling, Scotland, in August but first she will be stepping up her practice sessions to eight hours a week.
Poulter has a highest tournament break of 77 and is looking forward to representing the Savoy in the Maidstone League in the winter.
