KENT off-spinner Min Patel is enjoying a resurgence in the one-day form of the game.
He took four Twenty20 wickets against Middlesex at Lord's and followed that up with another three in the home tie against the same opposition.
Patel has made only four appearances in the competition over the last four years and played only 83 one-day matches in 18 seasons on the St Lawrence staff.
He seems to have been severely under used in one-day cricket since making his debut in 1989.
But he is enjoying his moment at centre stage in the cut and thrust of Twenty20.
He said: "I’m loving it to be honest. We’re on a bit of a roll and it’s been fantastic to be part of it.
"In a format like this there will be occasions when the batsman has his day out and as a bowler you just have to say fair play and move on, but so far it’s gone well.
"You have to quickly assess a player’s strengths and weaknesses and set your fields accordingly and I suppose my experience in the game helps in that.
"It’s never been a case of me not wanting to play one-day cricket, but our captains and coaches down the years have chosen to go down another route.
"It’s nice to be involved now though because there’s a conscious effort to improve our one-day cricket."
In praising his veteran spinner, Patel’s skipper Rob Key said: "He’s shown how wily and how good a spinner he is. He has the confidence to take the pace off the ball when people are trying to get after him and that takes a lot of courage."
