Margate 3 Accrington Stanley 1
MARGATE continued their impressive home form in the Nationwide Conference with a fourth win in five matches at Dover’s Hoverspeed Stadium.
The victory was however, marred by a 76th minute red card for midfielder Jake Leberl whose dismissal prompted an angry response from manager Chris Kinnear who was sent to the stand.
The Gate went ahead in the 35th minute when Jay Saunders sent over a right-wing cross to Rocky Baptiste who skipped the challenge of defender Steve Halford before slotting home.
Saunders then clipped the post with a header but it was 2-0 two minutes into the second half when Halford and his keeper John Kennedy got into a mess allowing Baptiste to nip between them to score.
Leberl’s sending off followed his second yellow card and within a minute Accrington had pulled a goal back when Darren Kempson stabbed the ball home following a corner.
The visitors then pushed men forward but with defender Bill Edwards outstanding the Gate stood firm and clinched the points on 86 minutes when John Keister found Baptiste from whose cross Jean Michel Sigere scored at the far post.
