Invicta Dynamos v Milton Keynes Thunder
A HOME win on Sunday against Milton Keynes Thunder will see the Invicta Dynamos retain their English National Hockey League (South) title and move a step closer to making ice hockey history.
It would take an unlikely collapse for them to blow the title, as they would need to lose all four of their remaining games, with Oxford City Stars winning all theirs.
The Mos are in impressive form, notching up their 14th consecutive league victory last Sunday at Bracknell Hornets, winning 4-0. Since the Bears first pulled on their skates in 1986, no team in Medway has gone the entire season unbeaten.
Player-coach Kev Parrish said: "We had it confirmed on Wednesday that this game will be a four-pointer as Milton Keynes cannot get the ice time for the return fixture that was meant to take place on March 4.
"It brings added pressure if we do slip up, but we’re going about this game just like any other, training hard, using the same systems and are confident of winning.
"I don’t need to get the boys pumping for this one, they know what it means and how great it would be to win the title at home in front of our fans."
The Mos will be without the unavailable Matt Drake and Anthony Lennon is a doubt after limping off with an ankle injury five minutes before the end of last weekend’s game.
Parrish said: "Sometimes they don’t realise how badly they are injured and just want to play every game.
"Anthony probably came back a week early after doing the damage against Oxford last month and the ankle wasn’t strong enough. He’s going to do some light skating Thursday and see how he feels on Sunday."
Face off on Sunday is at 5.15pm.
