Waiting game for Armour

CHATHAM-based boxer Johnny Armour will find out later this week when his long-awaited WBU bantamweight title defence against Francis Ampofo will take place.

His promoters have pencilled in a date in early April for the fight at the York Hall in Bethnal Green after original fight on February 16 had to be cancelled because of illness.

Armour has been keeping his fitness levels high by training at Chatham's St Mary's Boxing Club before he returns to Liverpool but is awaiting confirmation of the date before making arrangements. Armour beat Ampofo on a points decision in December 2000 to win the title in a thrilling contest and the re-match promises to be a cracker.

With Armour always attracting a big following and Ampofo living in the Bethnal Green area a full house is guaranteed.
