While man-of-the-match Azhar Mahmood received ice treatment for his aching knees, his Spitfires' team-mate and Kent beneficiary Matt Walker sang his team-mate's praises after a top all-round performance in Kent's 59-run win over Glamorgan.
Azhar was not required to bowl his full entitlement of overs in the rain-affected tie, but the reality was, he didn't need to as he had already ensured a Kent win midway through the Glamorgan reply.
He followed a top-score of 68 in Kent's total of 202-9 with a six-over stint of 3-14 that included a golden-armed burst of 3-0 in five balls.
Walker, who will receive a percentage of the gate receipts after selecting this game as his benefit match, said: "I've been lucky enough in my career to play with a lot of fantastic cricketers and Azhar is up there with the best.
"He is a genius, I don't say that too often, but what he can do with bat and ball in pressure situations confirms it.
"It's hard to believe Surrey allowed the signing to go through because he's a joy to play with, a complete magician.
"He's simple with his batting technique and yet so destructive, and the skills he shows with the ball are simply out of this world."
Walker, who contributed a patient yet essential 30 to the Spitfires' total, added: "It was one of those pitches where, if the bowlers got the ball into the right area, it was hard to get it away, but Azhar made it look easy and he seemed able to hit it where he wanted.
"I've stood down the other end in complete awe because he hits shots I could never dream of hitting."
The only draw back for Kent is that Mahmood's swollen knees may now rule him out of Wednesday's return to LV Championship action against Durham in Chester-le-Street.
Yasir Arafat (side strain), Darren Stevens (groin) and Justin Kemp (back spasms) are also unlikely to make trip north, leaving Kent down to the bare bones of a squad.
Amjad Khan, who bowled in the 2nd XI game against Sussex in Beckenham last week, is set to be added to the party that is also likely to include Neil Dexter, Martin Saggers, Simon Cook as well as Walker.
