ROD WALLACE is no nearer making his Gillingham league debut after breaking down on his comeback for the reserves in yesterday’s 3-0 win over Queens Park Rangers.
The former Southampton, Leeds, Glasgow Rangers and Bolton striker broke down after 43 minutes, ending hopes that he could be available for Saturday's match at Norwich. It is a hugely disappointing setback for Wallace who has been troubled by a groin injury since pre-season.
Club coach Wayne Jones has denied the suggestion that the injury might be more serious than was first thought. He added: “It's unfortunate that Rod had to come off but he was feeling some slight discomfort from what is an old injury and we didn't want to take any chances."
