Wasteful Gate pay the price

WENT CLOSE: John Keister
WENT CLOSE: John Keister

Margate 0 Hornchurch 1

MARGATE boss Chris Kinnear reckoned his side had enough chances to win this Nationwide South game at Homelands on Saturday.

However, a first half goal by Greg Ngoye claimed the points for the cash-strapped Essex club, and condemned the homeless Thanet side to a tenth defeat of the season.

The only goal of the game came as early as the 24th minute when youngster Ngoye, scored off a post to beat Peter Trego, following a cross from Danny Hill.

Hornchurch included former Margate striker Jean Michel-Sigere in a three-man attack, and he had an early chance against his former club.

Aaron Barnett and John Keister went close to scoring early-on, until Ngoye, an 18-year-old work experience trainee, signed from parent club Northampton, broke the deadlock.

Leading scorer Che Stadhart missed out on a chance to put Margate level, before Hornchurch's much travelled goalkeeper Micky Desborough kept out another effort from Benevides.

The defeat saw Margate slip two places to 14th in the table ahead of Tuesday's clash against sixth placed Lewes.
