Newport County 0 Welling 0
The Wings were left to reflect on countless missed chances as they were held to a draw at struggling Newport on Saturday.
Welling, who endured a torrid six-hour coach journey after delays on the M4, were in control from first whistle to last but their lack of killer instinct in front of goal cost them dear.
The game kicked-off nearly half-hour late but Welling started well and after 15 minutes Matthew McEntegart saw his close range header parried by keeper Glyn Thompson before Charlie Sheringham somehow prodded the rebound wide.
Sanchez Ming, handed a starting berth, saw his 35-yard drive go inches wide before James Baker - also promoted to the starting line-up - also dragged his left-foot shot wide of the target.
Lee Blackburn's corners caused all sort of problenms for the home defence before Sheringham fluffed another good chance five minutes before the interval.
It was the same story after the break with the hosts only threatening from set pieces and all the football coming from the visitors.
Jerome Anderson twice went close before Baker lacked the pace when sent clean through and was denied by a last-ditch Ashley Vickers tackle.
Welling continued to dominate and Baker saw his shot deflected wide before Sheringham was out of luck with three headers from three Blackburn corners.
The Wings should have won the game in the last minute but another flowing move involving Anderson and Sonny Cobbs saw Ryan Johnson denied by the keeper and Baker just failed to convert the rebound.
Welling have re-arranged their home game with Eastleigh, which will now be played on Saturday, November 8 with Team Bath, their scheduled opponents, in FA Cup action.
