GOLF fans can see some of the sport’s big names as the final qualifying stages for Open get under way this weekend.
Final qualifying is being staged on Sunday and Monday at North Foreland, Littlestone, Prince's and Royal Cinque Ports. Admission at the events is free.
At Littlestone Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance is joined by Kent’s Paul Way, Americans Jeff Maggert and Scott Dunlap, and England’s Paul Broadhurst and Barry Lane.
At Royal Cinque Ports rivals will include experienced Kent player Jamie Spence and Zimbabwe’s Mark McNulty.
North Foreland competitors include Frenchman Jean Van De Velde, who famously blew his chance to win the Open in 1999 before losing to Paul Lawrie, Italy’s Costantino Rocca, Spain’s Miguel Angel Jiminez, and Kent favourites Roger Chapman, formerly of Faversham, and Warren Bennett, of Broadstairs.
Competing at Prince’s is former US Masters champion and Ryder Cup star Ian Woosnam, as well as America’s Billy Mayfair, Sweden’s Per-Ulrik Johansson, and Kent’s Benn Barham, based at Chart Hills.
