Water ski club in sponsorship plea

MEMBERS of Whitstable Water Ski Club are looking for local benefactors and sponsors to help bring the nation’s top racers to the town this summer.

The club are hoping to host the second round of this year’s British National Offshore Championships on June 14 and 15, but rising costs mean the club can no longer subsidise staging the event from club funds alone.

Club spokesman Guy Singer is now turning to the town’s business-folk for help in part financing the race.

“Most of our costs for staging a national event in Whitstable are expended on providing medical cover, rescue boats and the provision of race officials - all of which are essential for the race to go ahead,” said Mr Singer.

We would welcome the opportunity to negotiate a sponsorship package with companies in the town or in the East Kent area to allow us to secure the hosting of this prestigious event in Whitstable.”

The British Offshore Championships get underway at Lake Windermere in May and reach their climax on Lake Como, Italy, in September.
