AS GLAD as I was with our well-earned win against Plymouth, there was something that made me smile even more.

When I got home after the game, I thought I'd have a look at Plymouth's official website to see what they thought about their defeat, a result that leaves them just four points in front of us.

Gracious in defeat they were not. In fact, the report was so biased it was unbelievable.

Throughout they criticised the Gills fans and players, and reserved special condemnation for referee Jarnail Singh, who apparently bottled giving them a penalty and wrongly sent off Paul Connolly for his shocking tackle on Darren Byfield.

To top it all off, the report ended with the sentence: "Whoever said cheats never prosper was, sadly, wrong."

Now, the article you're reading is a fan's view of events at Gillingham, but I would never dream of using such a phrase. I find it unbelievable that Plymouth saw it fit to use it on their official website.

And that's what I said in my email to the Football League. Sad it might be, but I felt that the comments were not only wrong, but uncalled for.

It would seem that my comments were forwarded to Plymouth who have removed the report and replaced it with an apology for comments written in "the heat of the moment".

Just goes to say to show that the fans are listened to sometimes after all!

As for the match, it was far from a thriller, but we did enough. Andrew Crofts – whose form has come on leaps and bounds in the past few weeks – marked the signing of a new four-and-a-half year contract with his first goal at Priestfield.

After Cardiff's draw at Leeds, the league table looks a lot healthier now. And if Leeds go into administration as the rumour mill suggests, the 10 points they would have deducted will put them on 27 points, two behind the Gills.

But as I'm sure Stan Ternent will be telling the lads, it doesn't matter what anyone else does. If we keep playing with the fight and passion that we have been showing in recent league games, we'll get the points to stay up comfortably.
