MEMBERS of Aylesford Rugby Club are offering a reward to anyone who can help them identify vandals who have done thousands of pounds worth of damage to their Ferry Field ground (Fred Atkins writes).

The latest incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning when weedkiller was used to mark out a football field on top of their best pitch.

According to club chairman Terry Hewitt, the spate of recent attacks has now taken on a more sinister air. He said: “They’ve used weed-killer to burn football markings onto our first-team pitch, which we’d only just relaid at a cost of £7,000.

“If someone wanted to just damage the pitch they’d have just put the weedkiller in one area, so we are going to offer a reward to anyone who can help us catch them.”

The attack is the latest in a succession of incidents at the ground. The club’s watering machine has been wrecked and CCTV footage has shown hooded youths attempting to break into the club house.

The weed-killer attack took place beyond the range of the cameras, as did the theft of the entrance gate and a section of the perimeter fence.
