CANTERBURY lost by the odd goal in five against Cannock on Sunday to remain rooted to the bottom of the English Premier League table.
Skipper Matt Harper opened the scoring at Polo Farm on Sunday with a 20th minute effort but the visitors drew level from a penalty corner strike after 42 minutes and a second goal two minutes later put them in front.
Chris Bassano-Harper levelled for the city side on 58 minutes but another goal from a penalty corner four minutes later sealed victory for Cannock.
Dave Mathews struck five goals as Holcombe thrashed University of Cambridge 9-0 in the National South Division.
Denzil Dolly (2), Paul Rudd and David Hemsley completed the scoring as Holcombe made light work of the league’s second to bottom side.
Team boss Mike Haines said: “There was a bit of a gap in ability. We had more time to play and took complete advantage of that. Dave is quite ruthless when he’s given the opportunity to score goals.”
Sevenoaks remain second in the table following their 7-2 victory over Robinson’s.
Oaks twice took the lead through Ben Sykes and Pete Turner but on each occasion Robinson’s levelled it up.
A Craig Ross goal made it 3-2 and further strikes from James Davies-Yandle, Tim Smith, Turner and Ross sealed the win.
Bromley & Beckenham came back from a three goal deficit to claim a point at Firebrands.
The match ended 3-3 after Ian Saunders, Dave Evans and Graham Butler scored in the second half.
