CANTERBURY were beaten twice over the weekend to lose ground in the Slazenger English Premier League.

They slumped to a 2-0 loss at Ipswich on Saturday, conceding from a penalty corner and a penalty stroke.

They fell 4-0 behind against league-leading Bowdon Hightown at Polo Farm on Sunday, although Susannah Townsend pulled one back around the hour mark and Mel Clewlow scored the City club’s second four minutes later.

Canterbury now lie sixth in the 10-team division, 14 points adrift of Bowdon after nine games.

Maidstone lost on home soil to Taunton Vale on Saturday in the National South Division.

Vale had gone ahead early on but strikes by Lauren Penny and Lizzie Daniels put Maidstone into a 2-1 lead.

Vale levelled the scores by the break and mid-way through the second period struck again to take the points with a 3-2 win.

Sevenoaks came from behind to beat Swansea 2-1.

Swansea were a goal ahead by the half-time interval and Sevenoaks left it late to come back into the match.

Sarah Pinkstone levelled the scores on the hour mark and two minutes later Jet Van Zalen scored what was to be the winner.
