KIRSTY CHAPMAN was still on the sidelines cheering on her Canterbury team-mates in their 5-1 win over Poynton in the Slazenger Women’s Premier Division game at Polo Farm on Saturday despite learning she had suffered a fractured skull at Slough the week before.
The Oxford-based forward spent eight hours in accident and emergency at a local hospital the previous day, learning her fate, after originally being told she had only sustained a badly broken nose in a freak accident involving South African international team-mate Jen Wilson.
Player-coach Mel Clewlow said: "I think she was a bit shocked to hear the news, but felt fine in herself, and wanted to be there supporting the side."
Tash Brennan scored twice, with Wilson, Sarah Kerly and Susie Townsend getting the others, the win pushes the Ladies one place up the table to fifth.
Maidstone were held on home soil by already relegated Woking on Saturday.
Basement side Woking cancelled out Kirsty Hotson’s 20th minute opener to make the game 1-1 in National South.
Elsewhere in the division Sevenoaks came from a goal down to beat St Albans 2-1.
Sarah Embrey had scored just after the hour for the Saints but minutes later goals from Sarah Pinkstone and Davina Ablett put Oaks ahead.
