Well earned win for 10-man Wings

GOAL: Chris Moore
GOAL: Chris Moore

Cambridge City 0 Welling United 1

CHRIS MOORE'S second half header gave 10-man Welling a richly deserved three points at Cambridge City on Saturday.

Moore headed home Jamie Day's excellent free-kick after 58 minutes for the only goal of the game.

It was a match dominated by referee Mike George who sent off Welling debutant Lawrie Wilson for a professional foul after 26 minutes.

Wilson appeared to get the ball but the official deemed that he had taken Neil Midgeley's leg instead.

By this stage Welling had already hit the crossbar when Danny Kedwell crossed for Martin Carthy whose header came back off the woodwork.

Cambridge were fortunate not to have Lewis Baillie sent off for elbowing Gray's bound Matt Bodkin - referee George only showed a yellow card.

The Wings were denied by the woodwork again on the stroke of half-time when Steve Perkins' looping header came back off the bar.

Cambridge keeper Danny Naisbitt was only booked for a push on Moore as tempers increased after Welling went ahead.

Kedwell had a penalty appeal turned down and then fired wide late on as the 10 men comfortably negotiated the closing stages.
