Welling 6 Whitstable 1
Welling won the Kent Senior Cup for the first time in a decade on Thursday night.
The Wings comfortably saw off plucky Ryman League Division 1 South Whitstable, who were far from disgraced despite the scoreline.
The Oystermen certainly gave Welling a run for their money, especially in the first half when only home keeper David Wilkinson prevented them taking a shock lead.
Welling led after nine minutes when Charlie Sheringham converted a penalty after Loui Fazackerley was felled in the area.
Wilkinson then denied the front pair of Dave Cory and Ian Pulman before the latter curled an excellent 25-yard free-kick into the far corner to level the scores in the 17th minute.
Welling regained their lead three minutes later when Jack Parkinson cut inside and beat Kevin Fewell at his near post.
The goal of the game arrived on the half-hour when Wings defender Lee Protheroe drilled home from 30 yards.
Any hope of a Whitstable comeback ended just three minutes into the second half when Sam Hurrell scored from close range to make it 4-1.
Only the woodwork denied Jake Gess at the other end but Welling added a fifth in the 66th minute when Sheringham set up Ryan Johnson to score low beyond Fewell.
Parkinson added his second of the game, and Welling's sixth, with 14 minutes remaining to round off their first success in the competition since 1999.
It was Whitstable's first final appearance but they certainly earned plenty of plaudits for their conduct on and off the pitch.
