Gillingham 1 Wycombe 1
Curtis Weston rescued a deserved point for Gillingham on Sunday to keep intact their impressive home record.
Weston's 83rd-minute volley cancelled out a first-half goal from leaders Wycombe and extended Gillingham's unbeaten home record to 11 games.
A defensive mix-up led to Wycombe's goal when Simon Royce tried to clear but the combined efforts of Stuart Lewis and Matt Bloomfield saw the ball spin into the back of the net.
That goal came despite Gillingham dominating the early proceedings. Albert Jarrett and Nicky Southall had both come close, but at the other end Garry Richards needed to make a good tackle to deny Angelo Balanta after the striker broke clear.
After Wycombe took their 31st-minute lead, Gills still pushed forward and one of the club's former players Leon Johnson denied Weston a goal as he cleared off the line.
Keeper Scott Shearer then blocked Southall's powerful shot moments later.
Early in the second half, Gills defender Simon King came close to levelling when he tried to acrobatically convert Gary Mulligan's flick-on from John Nutter's corner. But Wycombe got plenty of bodies behind the ball as it ran loose and, despite Jackson's best efforts, the visitors cleared.
Mulligan himself tried something special to unlock the Wycombe defence but his overhead kick was weak and keeper Shearer claimed with ease.
Adam Miller shot well wide after some good build-up play and Weston missed by even more moments later as Gillingham continued to have plenty of possession but were unable to convert.
Gillingham kept up the pressure and more good play, revolving around Dennis Oli, led to a shot from Weston which went just wide.
A deserved equaliser finally came on 83 minutes when a Southall free-kick came off the wall and fell to Weston who volleyed into the top corner.
Miller and Jackson then went close to scoring as Gillingham searched for a winner
Gillingham manager Mark Stimson said: It would have been a crime if we hadnt got anything from the game.
For us to produce a performance like that, after our awful performance on Boxing Day, was pleasing. When we play like that, well do well against most teams at this level.
The goal against us was comical. It was one of those which you dont see very often in a season. But Stuart Lewis got over that and although he had a tricky winger against him, they didnt get any change.
