Welling suffered their second home defeat of the campaign after conceding a last-gasp winner to Nuneaton on Saturday.

The Wings never really got going despite taking the lead through Ross Lafayette's penalty, and eventually paid the price in a game of few chances.

The visitors failed to trouble Wings keeper Lee Butcher in the first half, but Welling created only half-chances at the other end.

Fraser Franks headed just wide from a Joe Healy free-kick, Alex Dyer's 20-yard shot was saved and Lafayette's deflected drive was pushed away by keeper James Belshaw.

Welling started the second half brightly and, after skipper Lee Clarke fired over from a corner, they went ahead when Theo Streete tripped Lafayette in the box and the striker stepped up to score his seventh goal of the campaign.

But within two minutes, Nuneaton were back in the game with their first effort on target. Louis Moult's close-range effort came back off the post and James Armson was on hand to convert beyond Butcher.

Substitute Kiernan Hughes-Mason shot wide from 20 yards while visiting skipper Gareth Dean's header was brilliantly saved by Butcher.

Welling missed a glorious opening to go in front again with 16 minutes left when substitute Loick Pires' excellent left-wing cross was turned wide by Lafayette.

And it was a miss that came back to haunt them in the first minute of stoppage time when substitute Freddie Ladapo, on loan from Colchester, lobbed Butcher to hand the visitors all three points.
