Wings beaten by leaders; Lillywhites win again

Chelmsford 2 Welling 0; Bromley 1 Dorchester 0

A goal in either half was enough for Blue Square South leaders Chelmsford to comfortably see off another disappointing Welling performance on Saturday.

The first half saw little action apart from Ollie Berquez's close-range finish which put the hosts ahead in the 24th minute.

It took Welling until stoppage-time to produce an attempt at goal as Orlando Smith's 30-yard shot hit the outside of the post.

The game was put beyond the Wings in the 62nd minute when full-back Spencer Knight was given time and space and keeper Clark Masters was left grasping at thin air from his 25-yard shot.

Welling rallied briefly with substitute Jack Parkinson and Ryan Johnson both having long-range efforts - but in truth there was little fight or cohesion in their display and manager Andy Ford will have plenty to ponder before Tuesday night's trip to St Albans.

Meanwhile, Bromley produced a more defensively solid display to take all three points at home against Dorchester.

Warren McBean eventually scored the winner in the 38th minute after he had first been denied by a combination of defender and keeper Gareth Stewart and then Adrian Stone had somehow hit the inside of the post with the goal gaping.

Ryan Hall was denied by a decent Stewart save after the break as the Lillywhites looked to extend their lead.

Dorchester failed to seriously test Bromley keeper Gareth Williams but enjoyed plenty of possession and will be disappointed they didn't take anything from the game.

It's now three unbeaten for the Lillywhites after last week's thriller at St Albans and the draw with Havant and Waterlooville.
