Welling v Eastleigh
WELLING manager Neil Smith has urged the club's supporters to get behind the team on Saturday.
The Wings were booed off in their previous home game against Hayes & Yeading and Smith is keen to put that performance behind them.
"I need the supporters to get behind us from the start," said Smith.
"I'll take the responsibility for the team and I'll take it on the chin.
"The supporters that went to Eastbourne on Tuesday clapped us off at the end because they could see the effort that the players put in - but it wasn't there against Hayes."
Smith has demanded his team carry their second-half showing at Eastbourne into the Eastleigh clash.
The game will have added significance with former Wings Anthony Riviere, Steve Watts and Ellis Green all plying their trade for Eastleigh while former Welling assistant manager Phil Handford is a member of their coaching staff.
"I need the team that played at Eastbourne to turn up on Saturday, not the one we saw against Hayes," added Smith.
"They need to give me the second-half performance like we did at Eastbourne, who are the best team we have played so far this season."
Smith is hoping to complete the signing of at least one new player before the Eastleigh clash.
But one player who will not be involved is full-back Steve May, who has left the club to join Dulwich Hamlet.
May struggled for confidence after his own goal on the opening day of the season gifted Bognor maximum points at Park View Road.
