Havant & Waterlooville v Welling United
WELLING manager Adrian Pennock is relishing the prospect of playing four of the Nationwide Conference South’s top teams in the next fortnight.
The Wings travel to Havant on Saturday and Farnborough on Tuesday before hosting Weymouth and then visiting Lewes on successive weekends.
The results will go a long way in determining whether Welling finish in the play-off places by the end of April.
"It’s in our own hands," said Pennock. "If we get points from the next four matches then we’re in with a great chance of making the play-offs.
"We need to show how hungry we are and display a mental toughness when we go 1-0 up – the players are not told to sit back and defend it."
Welling’s push for a play-off place has been boosted by the return of midfielder Martin Carthy on a free transfer from Thurrock.
Carthy, who had been on loan at AFC Wimbledon, joins the Wings until the end of the season – hoping to repeat his form at the end of the previous campaign that played a major role in keeping the Wings in Conference South.
"It’s great to have Martin back with us," said Pennock. "He wants to do well and will get into the penalty area and score goals for us.
"He only knows Jamie Day and Chris Moore from last season but he has already said that we’ve got much better players around them now."
The Wings have also signed forward Moses Jjunju until the end of the season.
