Wings cling to a point; Lillywhites snatch one

Dorchester 1 Welling 1; Bromley 3 Thurrock 3

Welling held on for a second half point after they lost their way at Dorchester in Blue Square South on Saturday.

The Wings had been on course for maximum points after taking a first half lead - but they were made to pay for a sluggish display after the break.

Wings could have been ahead as early as the second minute but Charlie Sheringham's low drive was diverted to safety by a last-ditch Kevin Hill block.

Jack Parkinson headed wide Lee Blackburn's 20th-minute corner and it was the same combination that gave Welling the lead just after the half hour.

Blackburn's corner was headed onto the bar by Parkinson before the loose ball was turned into his own net by Danny Clay.

The game changed after the break as Welling were off the pace and had little shape and fight in their ranks.

Dorchester levelled in the 57th minute when Tony Sinclair tried to play the offside trap but only gifted Jamie Mudge a clear run on goal and he slotted past keeper Clark Masters.

The Wings were indebted to a brilliant one-handed stop by Masters in the 69th minute after Sinclair almost sliced a right-wing cross into his own net.

Dorchester looked the more likely late on and Masters had to save from Hill as the home side threatened to nick a winner.

Meanwhile, Bromley grabbed a last-gasp equaliser as they rescued a point from lively encounter with Thurrock at Hayes Lane.

Warren McBean was on hand to make it 3-3 as the clock ticked onto 90 minutes after Ryan Hall's free-kick had found its way to him at the far post.

Earlier, Hall had given the Lillywhites a 24th-minute lead from close range after fine work by Ashley-Paul Robinson.

However, the visitors levelled in comical fashion seven minutes later when Moses Swaibu, under no pressure at all, put through his own net. At the right end it would have been a fine finish.

Bromley went route one to retake the lead on 37 minutes. Nic McDonnell did superbly in the build-up as he chased down a long punt forward by Luke I'Anson, held off two defenders and squared for McBean to bag his first of the afternoon.

Thurrock equalised with the second half less than 20 seconds old through Leon McKenzie and it was the same player who made it 3-2 in the 66th minute, netting from close range after Jerrome Sobers had headed against his own crossbar before McBean had the final say.
