Wings close in on new signing

Welling look set to sign St Albans' Sam Hurrell, according to the Hertfordshire club's website.

Hurrell scored against the Wings last week in Welling 3-2 win at St Albans and impressed as a second-half substitute down the left wing.

Hurrell won the first series of Football Icon on Sky One in 2005, which earned him a professional contract with Chelsea. He played for Chelsea's youth team, and he made a couple of appearances for the reserves.

He was released at the end of the 2007 season and had unsuccessful trials at Leyton Orient and Bradford.

Hurrell joined St Albans in October 2008 and made 17 appearances fot the Saints.
